For The Love Of Scrubs

Darren Hughes, Technical Sales Engineer at Extract Technology, is involved in a national appeal for NHS PPE and scrubs shortages. We are delighted to tell his story!
‘For the Love of Scrubs’ started as a national social media appeal for people who could help make scrubs to band together for their local NHS. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PPE and scrubs have been in short supply throughout the UK, so local coordinators are appealing to people who can support the initiative.
The response for making scrubs was overwhelming with local businesses supplying material. Back in April there were over 200,000 volunteers around the country producing multiple sets.
Although there were plenty of volunteers making them, they were still desperately short of the printed pattern required to cut out the templates. A local doctor sent a request for anyone who had access to a plotter to print A1 prints.
This was a clear opportunity where the Extract Team could contribute toward the national effort in protecting frontline healthcare workers. Dan Ferguson, Design Engineer, and Darren Hughes printed off a number of patterns which were then delivered to the organisation’s coordinator.
These were distributed to local ‘Scrubs Volunteers’ and within a week the scrubs were delivered to Chester Hospital, protecting NHS workers and contributing to saving lives.
This is an ongoing initiative, so if anyone wants to get involved, please visit https://www.fortheloveofscrubs.org/all-regions or send an email via @ForTheLoveOfScrubs – The Original Page. Darren also has scrubs patterns which he would be happy to pass on via email.
Well done Darren and Dan!
